O V E R V I E W
Auto Point is a program aimed at helping sysops who run points. It
uses an internal database which will create a point list.
Whenever the database is quit, it will ask you whether or not you
want to create the lists. If you choose to create the lists,
AutoPoint uses the database to create a pointlist for each point
using the specified filenames, and also creates a complete
pointlist of all users for the sysop, in the specified file.
It puts all of the nodelists into the specified outbound
directory, and creates a file-attach message for each point's
pointlist.
Auto Point also has a handy feature that allows point operators
that operate under your node to send an "Auto Point nodelist
request". This is useful if a point loses their pointlist.

D I S C L A I M E R
The only thing that Auto Point guarantees is to take up some disk
space. If it in any way, mangles, garbles, or chokes on something,
that is not our problem. When you run this program, you accept all
problems that occur from using it.
Now that the nitty gritty's over, I haven't had it chew up
anything over here, so it shouldn't chew anything of yours. It
shouldn't eat netmail messages, shouldn't mangle, garble, or choke
on other unrelated programs, but it may.
If you break it, you own both halves, just as if you make it screw
up your data, it's your garbage.

C R E D I T S
Cheers to Rick Chartrand, for coming up with the concept of Auto
Point.
Thanks to Roy Hooper, for having the patience and ambition to write
the programs for Sumware.
Many thanks to Michelle Chartrand for editing these documents for
legibility, clarity and accuracy.
MUCHO thanks to Fabiano Fabris for pointing that the mailer will
only send the mail when the local flag is active in the .MSG file.

S E T U P
In order to get Auto Point working properly, you have to configure
it to your setup. The program for configuration is called
APCONFIG.EXE. It's very simple to use. Once you activate the
program, you'll get a screen with the following fields, all of
which should be blank. To fill them in, go up or down with your
cursor keys to the desired field, hit <enter> and type the correct
information. Hit <enter> to save the information and go on to the
next field.
ZONE this is the first number in your FidoNet address
i.e. X:xxx/xxx
NET this is the second number in your FidoNet address
i.e. x:XXX/xxx
NODE this is the third number in your FidoNet address
i.e. x:xxx/XXX
BOSSLIST your own, personal, private pointlist (full path -
trailing backslashes aren't necessary)
POINTLIST location you wish to put the created nodelists for
your points. (full path)
SYSOP your name
BBS NAME the name of your Bulletin Board System
KILLSENT this is a toggle function. It determines if the
messages APoint creates get deleted after they've
been sent to your points or not. Toggle this on to
delete mail.
DOMAIN this is the domain that your network belongs to,
e.g. Fidonet
Hit <esc> to save the configuration file, and voila - you're done!

When you send in the registration fee, you'll be sent a key which
will take out the 5 second delay at the beginning and end of use,
and also the beeps.
In order to install your key you must use APCONFIG.EXE, where F1
brings up a window that allows you to install your registration
key.

Once fully configured, Auto Point will display a screen with not
much on it. Auto Point's keys are listed below:
INS Add a Point to the Point DataBase
This will pop up a window with a set of editing fields.
These editing fields are the information required by Auto
Point.
POINT is the point number
POINTLIST is the name of this point's list to be created. Do NOT
add the file extension (e.g. .TXT, .LST.) because APoint
does this automatically.
NAME is the point's node name
LOCATION is the point's location as seen in the nodelist
NUMBER is the telephone number
BAUD is the baud rate
FLAGS are additional information to be added to the pointlist,
such as crashmail. What is added here must have commas
between each nodelist keyword, and a trailing comma, only
if this field is used. This field is optional.
For a complete list of available flags, see FLAGS.TXT
which is included in this package.
PASSWORD is the password that is found on the subject line of a
Auto Point nodelist request. See APGEN.
NAME, LOCATION, and NUMBER must not have any commas within them or
the nodelists will be screwed up!

Control Keys for data entry boxes:
Up/Shift-Tab Previous field.
Down/Tab/Enter Next field.
F10 Save.
ESC Abort.
Up Go up an entry/field.
Down Go down an entry/field.
Controls Keys for the point browsing facility (active upon
startup):
Alt-D Mark Down/Delete a point.
This will mark a point as down, and if hit a second
time, will delete the point entirely. If a node is
down, it is indicated by an X between the name and
point number. (q.v. Alt-U)
Alt-E/Space Edit/View a point.
This will pop up the same editing box as INS,
however it has the information for the selected
point filled in. All controls are the same as INS.
Alt-Q Quit
This will clear the screen and ask you if you want
to create the lists. If you answer yes, it will
create the separate pointlists and a complete
pointlist for you. It will also make the file
attach messages.
Alt-U Mark Up
This will reverse the effects of pressing Alt-D once
and will remove the X and Down status in the
database.
Up/Down Will move from entry to entry.
PgUp/PgDown Will move up/down a full screen of entries.

/M Automatically sends previously compiled point list
for an unattended node, from a batch file.
e.g :
:APOINT
cd\fd\apoint {directory where APoint is found}
apoint /m

A P G E N
APGEN.EXE is a program that scans your netmail directory looking
for messages addressed to Auto Point. It looks at the MSGID
created by FD and most other mailers and determines the source of
the message. If the source IS the bossnode, it ignores the
message. If the source IS NOT the bossnode, APGEN checks the
subject line against the password stored in the point database and
checks for a match. If there's no match, no nodelist is created.
If there's a match it creates a nodelist and file attaches it.
This assumes that all other file attaches have made it through,
otherwise the user will have duplicate files sent.
To use APGEN, you have to put it in the batch file you've got set
up for your BBS/Mailer, under the section you import (or toss) your
mail. An example of this would be:
:START
if errorlevel 123 goto TOSS
.
.
.
:TOSS
cls
echo Tossing Inbound Mail Bundles
C:
cd\qbbs <----- Directory to your mail tosser
imail toss
cd\fd\apoint <----- Directory to APOINT software
apgen
goto START
APGEN.EXE must be in the same directory as APOINT.EXE and
APOINT.PNT files.

Upon receipt of your registration fee, your private key will be
prepared and sent to you by either netmail or voice. Once you have
the key, you will be able to re-run APCONFIG.EXE and install the
key. It's saved to APOINT.KEY. This key requires that the
information in the following form matches exactly the SysopName and
BBSname in APCONFIG.EXE otherwise it will not work.
